GOLIA, the giant within
Acromegaly is a rare disease regarding an excess of the growth ormone excess with generic symptoms whose main consequence is a slow and abnormal growth of the bones of hands, feet, face ani internal organs, but only an attentive eye can notice these changes. It takes years to be diagnosed, and often doctors compare old photographs of patiens to make the diagnosis. It forces a reformulation of the everyday life, small things (changing shoe size or ring size), causes a profound discrepancy between body, self perception and identity.
The series wants to be a free study of adult bodies that are transformed and unexpectedly return to growth, an opportunity for a delicate look, in which photography is not (only) used as a scientific tool, but it re-discusses the border between the norm, the discard and the self recognition, photography as a form of meditation and a slow and continuous observation of the difference in detail.
